Detail Design

Detail component design (styling) is as critical and integral a part of the motorcycle as is its overall form and poise.

Very few people in the West actually need to buy a new motorcycle and it’s therefore a key responsibility of all involved in the design to ensure that desirability isn’t compromised. Understanding the importance of form and finish of individual parts is vital, as is recognising when a part should be elegantly engineered or when it should be deliberately embellished. Optimising the form and desirability of a part by taking full advantage of its manufacturing method is also key to this and deciding what to present to the customer and what to push into the background also plays a part.

At CHD we generally choose to use Pro/Engineer for the design of functional visual components but can also use Alias or Icem Surf when required for specific reasons. We do also have some experience of reverse-engineering bodywork forms using Pro/Engineer but for this would generally choose Alias or Icem Surf.

Detail Engineering

CHD is able to undertake almost all of the detail engineering functions that allow a motorcycle to move from concept to production. Where we feel that a particular aspect of a project is outside of our direct experience we will say so and where we feel that additional facilities or resource will be required, we can bring in other specialists who can work along-side us or simply suggest the right people to talk to.

In terms of component design, we are fully able to design and generate detailed CAD models (Pro/Engineer) and drawings of the parts or systems that will occur on a motorcycle with full regard for materials, cost, availability, manufacturing processes and constraints, duty cycles, component loadings etc.
